For instance, the 2022 Rivian R1T had an airbag sensor glitch affecting just over 500 trucks. Nearly 13,000 vehicles faced a steering problem later that year. These instances aren’t big in number compared to some industry giants, but they’ve still made a mark.

Turn Signal Troubles

Fast forward to recent times, and a new problem crops up: defective front turn signals in the 2025 R1T and R1S models. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), around 27,882 vehicles might have this issue. Supplied by Myotek, these lights might not flash properly, which is a big no-no in terms of federal safety standards. This could increase the risk of accidents as other drivers might not catch a vehicle’s drift while changing directions.

This issue showed up in vehicles manufactured from April 29, 2024, to May 13, 2025. Fortunately, these tech-savvy vehicles alert drivers when a turn signal isn’t functioning, thanks to onboard diagnostics. A warning pops up on the dash, blinker indicators hyper-flash, and it all works together to give the heads-up that it needs servicing soon. So far, no accidents or injuries have been reported because of this.

Getting It Sorted

This isn’t one of those issues that a minor software patch can address. Instead, it’s about rolling up sleeves for some good old-fashioned hardware replacement. Even though not every 2025 R1S and R1T is tagged under this defect, it’s crucial for Rivian to check and swap out the faulty lamps. Owners are slated to receive notifications starting July 25, 2025, detailing the next steps.

It’s a straightforward fix; however, those driving a Rivian before the recall has resolved might want to reconsider signaling methods for the time being. Like, using hand signals might just save the day and avoid potential on-road misunderstandings.
