Stellantis Welcomes New CEO: Antonio Filosa Takes the Reins

Antonio Filosa has stepped into the role of CEO at Stellantis, succeeding Carlos Tavares. Filosa was selected by the Board following a comprehensive evaluation of both internal and external prospects. He officially begins his duties on June 23rd, poised to guide the multinational automobile manufacturer through challenging times.
Background

Born in Naples in 1973, Filosa’s career in the automotive industry spans over 25 years, starting with Fiat in 1999. He’s climbed the ranks, showcasing his prowess and strategic insights across different capacities within the company. In 2018, he took on the role of Chief Operating Officer for South America at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Even post-merger with PSA in 2021, Filosa maintained his leadership, later becoming the CEO of Jeep from late 2023 until early 2025. His efforts during this period included expanding Jeep’s footprint in Brazil and European markets.
Challenges Ahead
Filosa is tasked with a significant challenge as Stellantis currently faces a 70% drop in profits from 2024. The emphasis on revitalizing US-based sales has become a focal point for the company. In a statement earlier in the year, the company underlined the US market as their primary area for expansion to counteract dwindling global sales. Stellantis needs rejuvenation and strategic dynamism to navigate these turbulent business fields, and it’s clear there’s a lot riding on Filosa’s shoulders to steer the ship right.
Driving Change
Upon beginning his role, Filosa is expected to announce a new leadership team as part of their strategy to tackle current obstacles. His approach hinges on tapping into Stellantis’s storied heritage, its diverse brand portfolio, and the intrinsic commitment of its workforce to deliver superior products and experiences to their customers. Executives John Elkann, staying on as Executive Chairman, has expressed confidence in Filosa’s ability to drive success citing his leadership qualities and comprehensive industry knowledge accumulated over his extensive career.
Emphasizing Legacy and Innovation
Under Filosa’s leadership, Stellantis seeks to harness the power of its iconic brands and a century-long tradition of innovation to maintain its competitive edge. While challenges are rife, the focus remains on customer satisfaction through excellence and innovation. Filosa feels empowered by the capabilities and passion of the Stellantis team to set new benchmarks in the automotive industry.
