Skoda L&K 130

The Skoda L&K 130 is a one-of-kind vehicle developed by the sharp minds at the Skoda Academy, designed to turn heads and tackle specific tasks. Based on the Skoda Superb Combi, this pickup is customized to support cycling events. It’s named to honor Skoda’s founders, Laurin and Klement, who kicked off their legacy with bicycles over a century ago. This isn’t just a get-up-and-go ride; it has been carefully tailored for racing enthusiasts.
Design & Build
Diving into its design, the L&K 130 takes the Superb Combi and adds a bit of flair. This isn’t just a quick swap; the tail of this ride is fully revamped to incorporate a small bed and a nifty sliding tailgate. Picture this: with just a button press, the rear opens up, making it easy to fit up to three bicycles with ease. The right-side door got a fancy makeover too. It now slides backwards, sporting two door handles for the extra maneuverability.
Exterior & Interior
Outside, it rolls on 19-inch Supernova alloy wheels, giving it a sporty yet anchored look. The special gold, red, black, and white wrap speaks of dynamism and style. Inside, expect harmonized colors with special “130 years” embroidery on the seats. The cabin includes innovative storage solutions, such as a roof net and room for a cool box, making it a practical yet plush space for racers needing a pit stop on the move.
Under the Hood
The heart of the L&K 130 is a collaboration of a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor, producing a solid 201 horsepower. Its plug-in hybrid setup means quiet rides on electric power alone, up to 62 miles. It all amounts to not just a strong performance for a bike-hauler but a versatile tool for green-conscious driving.
On the Road
Taking it for a spin, the L&K 130 exhibits a smooth yet responsive nature thanks to its hybrid setup. The ride quality resembles its Superb roots, providing comfort and ample support even when loaded with gear. On curvy roads, expect a composed demeanor, reminding one of sporty wagons but a bit elevated. It feels more like a thoughtful reinterpretation of a pickup, losing none of the Superb’s daily drivability.
Attention Grabber
Developing such a concept took 2,000 hours of meticulous work by the students. It’s a showcase not just at trade shows but also at the enormous cycling stage of the Tour de France. The Skoda L&K 130 ties innovation with tradition, creating a testament to the brand’s century-old roots, while looking forward to a green, adaptable future.
