The Next Renegade

Jeep’s Renegade has been around since 2014, sporting its unmistakable rugged look. It still turns heads, but there’s no denying it could use a modern update. Fast forward to 2027, when a new generation of this beloved SUV is expected to arrive. Jeep fans in the U.S. will be excited to know that the new Renegade is set to launch with a price tag under $25,000, with an exciting option for an all-electric model.
Design Evolution
While the official design is shrouded in mystery, independent designer Marco Maltese has given his own imaginative spin on the Renegade. His concept sticks to the original’s compact size but with sharper, edgier lines. The idea here is to meld rugged reliability with a bit of futurism. The bold fenders and that adventurous Trailhawk trim with all-terrain tires would make it a sight on and off the road.
Front and Rear Looks
The face of Maltese’s Renegade ditches the classic circular headlights but keeps a unique semi-circle LED design. This shift doesn’t stray too far from Jeep’s legacy, as it still wears the iconic seven-slot grille paired with chunky plastic cladding, nodding to its off-road pedigree. The back is just as cool, sporting sleeker LED tail lights and a robust skid plate to match the front.
Interior and Tech
Inside, although a product of Maltese’s imagination, the concept is equipped with a digital cockpit that feels both cutting-edge and practical. Inspired by the smaller Jeep Avenger, it offers smart storage solutions without sacrificing the rugged feel Jeep aficionados love.
Under the Hood
For this next-gen Renegade, Stellantis plans to replace the old FCA platform with the new STLA Small platform. This upgrade paves the way for a mix of traditional combustion engines, modern hybrid setups, and full electrification options. A turbocharged 1.2-liter engine, possibly coupled with a mild-hybrid system, might bring an all-wheel drive option through an electrified rear axle, much like what’s considered for the Jeep Avenger 4Xe.
Market and Rivals
The 2027 Renegade will face stiff competition in Europe with established names like the Dacia Duster, Peugeot 2008, and the Hyundai Kona. Yet, in the U.S., its unique compact SUV appeal could very well secure its spot as a crowd favorite, standing out in a less crowded small SUV market.
Whether Maltese’s design sees the light of day or not, it’s clear that the Renegade’s future is bright, with Jeep ready to embrace both the demands of modern consumers and their love for classic off-road capabilities.
