The NHTSA states that this noncompliance falls under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 126. Their findings suggest that the lights fail to trigger when there’s an abnormal yaw rate, essentially compromising driver awareness during potential control loss scenarios.

Fortunately, the solution to this Miata mishap appears straightforward. The issue originates from an error in the dynamic stability control system’s diagnostic programming. In today’s world, software-based malfunctions often get resolved through over-the-air updates, but this fix isn’t set to be executed remotely. Miata owners will need to visit their dealers for the update. Patience is key, as Mazda plans a phased recall and estimates that necessary parts won’t become available until the second quarter of 2026.
