Heads Up On The Recall

So, it seems like even high-end SUVs are not immune to the occasional recall due to faulty parts. This time, it’s about certain Mercedes-Benz models, specifically the GLE and GLS series, including those luxurious Maybach variants. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall because interior cameras and mirrors could detach. Yep, you heard that right — pieces falling off these investment pieces. The root of the problem? Poor adhesive, much like the one Tesla faced with its Cybertruck.
Blame the Supplier

It appears the culprit is AGC Automotive Americas Co., based out of Michigan. They let a production hiccup slip through, and now the smart rearview mirrors might disconnect. Not only is reversing a bit more challenging, but it also hampers advanced driver assistance systems when those cameras and sensors go offline, increasing accident risks. This affects models like the AMG GLE 53 and Maybach GLS 4MATIC among others. While only 26 vehicles are currently affected, it’s wise to stay updated by checking recall notices.

Windshield Swap
If your ride was built between June 5, 2024, and October 12, 2024, a free windshield swap might be in the cards for you, since the camera components are embedded in the glass. But beware, it’s not just a structural issue. Even a minor chip can mean replacing an expensive system. When dealing with Maybach owners, quick and efficient fixes are vital. So, while they may not be thrilled about receiving a recall notice, having a new piece of glass could ease the sting.
