The New Lexus ES: Redesign and Electrification

Lexus is rolling out a fresh version of its ES sedan, set to launch in the European market come 2026. This new iteration aims for versatility with its lineup of two hybrid and two all-electric powertrains. The exterior has been overhauled to not only look modern but also enhance comfort and improve driving dynamics.
Under the Hood
The upcoming lineup features a couple of hybrid options: the base ES 300h with 199 horsepower and the more robust ES 350h churning out 244 horsepower. Both models come with a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine, available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive setups. The all-new electric versions, however, are the standouts here. The ES 350e offers a peppy 221 horsepower from a single motor, while its more powerful sibling, the ES 500e, delivers 338 horsepower courtesy of an all-wheel-drive configuration. Expect over 300 miles of driving range with its 75 kWh battery.
Fresh Look
Style comes first with the latest ES. There’s a complete redesign, featuring a streamlined, body-colored grille that makes a statement alongside its sharp, modern LED headlights. A clean, aerodynamic side profile complements the redesigned roofline, leading back to a fastback rear and a bold, LED light bar. This newly stretched sedan is about 6.5 inches longer, ensuring that the interior is spacious enough for a more comfortable ride.
Interior Comfort
The inside is just as impressive, boasting a techy 14-inch infotainment screen—the largest in any Lexus yet—and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Additional touches like higher-quality materials, improved sound insulation, and amenities such as a Mark Levinson audio system with 17 speakers, make for a cabin that feels luxurious. The adaptive interior also features “Hidden Switches”—appearing only when in use—and organic materials to please eco-conscious consumers.
The Drive
At its core, the ES sits on a refined version of the TNGAK platform. With enhancements to suspension and overall rigidity, it promises a more assured and plush driving experience than prior models. Expect the ES to handle with grace, contending fresh dynamics that make it a worthy alternative to European vehicles like the BMW 5-Series or the Audi A6. The new rear axle design offers improved stability and handling, whether in hybrid or electric mode.
Availability
European buyers can anticipate the Lexus ES hitting showroom floors in the spring of 2026, although no US pricing details have been confirmed. However, with its advanced features and sleek styling, the ES seems geared to make a splash in a competitive segment.
As the world shifts toward electrification, Lexus has surely made strides with its latest ES, aiming to reel in those who might’ve otherwise opted for its European rivals. Whether as a daily commuter or a weekend highway cruiser, this Lexus seems to have what it takes to draw attention from consumers on both sides of the pond.
