New Draw

Over in Europe, Kia has been spotted road testing the upcoming wagon version of its new K4 model. Think about the K4 sedan, a beloved figure in America, but now transformed into an estate with a little more practicality attached to its design. The essential characteristic to note is the maintenance of the sedan’s signature door handle design at the C-pillar, now accompanied by some interesting changes at the rear end.
Design Shift
One of the main critiques about the K4 sedan’s design was with its rear quarter. It’s fair to say the K4 wagon appears to have taken a different route, smoothing out the transition from the roof to the rear and creating a sleeker, more harmonious look. This design shift doesn’t just balance the profile but makes the K4 even more appealing at a glance.
Specs and Market
Internally, the K4 wagon mirrors the dimensions of its sedan sibling, sitting just about 4 inches longer than the Ceed Sportswagon, which is around 4 inches longer than the Ceed Sportswagon. That’s roughly about 4 inches, or if considering millimeters, approximately 101 mm. While the wagon prototype might have its sights on European markets, it’s worth noting that the K4, as a whole, has performed well in the U.S., being a top choice for buyers looking past SUVs and investing in a classic sedan.
Performance
Performance-wise, there’s a couple of options rolling out. Over in the States, the K4 offers a choice between a naturally aspirated 2.0 engine with 147 horsepower, and a turbocharged variant kicking out about 187 hp. In Europe, it’s likely there will be 1.6-liter mild-hybrids added into the mix, and maybe even a plug-in hybrid version. But don’t expect to see electric options here—that role is reserved for Kia’s EV4.
Driving Feel
On the road, the K4 has a refined touch, providing a smooth transition between shifts and delivering ample power while maintaining decent fuel efficiency. It’s not as raw as some sports sedans out there, and that’s part of its charm. It makes daily commutes enjoyable without being overbearing. If you’re thinking of family trips or hauling equipment, the wagon’s extended cargo space is a definite bonus, all while keeping the sharp exterior styling that stands up well against the competition.
For those who have appreciated the sedan’s combination of style, practicality, and price, the upcoming K4 wagon is set to bring even more to the table. By expanding the range, Kia seems to be keen on capturing the interest of those who desire a bit more utility without sacrificing the sleek design that has made the K4 a hit. While it’s still unclear if this wagon will cross over to the U.S., it’s definitely a development worth watching.
