Isuzu D-Max EV Unveiled

Introduction

The pickup truck market is seeing a green revolution, and Isuzu is jumping right in with the D-Max EV. This new electric version of the well-known D-Max is set to make waves when it hits roads in 2026. For those familiar with its robust diesel siblings, this electric variant promises to keep all the toughness while swapping out the fossil fuel for clean energy.

Power and Performance

The Isuzu D-Max EV is powered by dual electric motors, punching out 188 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. It’s got more power than its diesel counterpart by 27 hp, though it does trade off some torque, losing about 26 lb-ft compared to the diesel variant. Still, with a full-time four-wheel-drive system and Rough Terrain Mode borrowed from its diesel kin, it’s no pushover when the going gets tough.

Speed and Capability

Acceleration is respectable, with the D-Max EV hitting 0 to 62 mph in 10.1 seconds, and a top speed just over 80 mph. While not exactly a speed demon, it’s the work credentials that matter here. With a payload capacity over 2,205 pounds and a towing ability up to 7,716 pounds, the electric D-Max stands toe-to-toe with many diesel midsize trucks available today. Not to mention, it can handle off-road adventures with a wading depth of 23.6 inches and ground clearance of 8.3 inches.

Battery and Charging

The heart of the D-Max EV is a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a range of about 163 miles—a decent figure for a truck this size. Charging up is relatively speedy as well; using a DC fast charger, the battery can go from 20% to 80% in about an hour. Isuzu is backing the battery with an 8-year or 100,000-mile warranty, which is reassuring for long-term ownership.

Design and Features

On the outside, the D-Max EV doesn’t stray too far from the traditional look. Besides the electric-specific badges and lack of exhaust pipes, it remains familiar. The charging port replaces the usual fuel cap, a subtle change helping ease the transition for traditional truck fans. Released in a striking Norwegian Blue paint with black accents, it also boasts 18-inch alloy wheels.

Upcoming Availability

Isuzu is set to take pre-orders for the D-Max EV late in 2025, with consumer deliveries beginning in March 2026. Initially planned for markets in Europe like the UK and Norway, this electric truck is poised to offer a green alternative where pickups run the roads.
