Hummer Heist Fizzles

High-Stakes Hummer Heist Fails Spectacularly

Car Trouble

Talk about biting off more than you can chew. That’s exactly what happened in Detroit recently when a couple of thrill-seekers tried to pull off a wild heist. Instead of targeting an ordinary car parked at a dealership, these folks went big—like, “straight from a GM train” big. Their sights were set on two brand new GMC Hummer EVs gathering at GM’s Factory Zero.

Plan Flops

Now, these aren’t your average car thieves. They managed to sneak into the train yard at GM’s Detroit factory somehow, which is a feat in itself. Maybe they skipped the blueprints or forgot to plan the getaway because both Hummer EVs ended up stalled on the tracks rather than in a garage. Once inside the train yard, these masterminds opened a train car’s doors and attempted to drive off with the two electric giants inside. It’s assumed the EVs were left unlocked, with keys at the ready.

Tire Trouble

The escapade reportedly did not end well for them. The black Hummer EV ended up helplessly stuck on the tracks, passenger-side front tire ripped completely off the wheel. Overly eager or underestimating the drop, they apparently tried to simply drive the Hummer off the train car without using a ramp, resulting in quite the messy landing.

The silver model didn’t fare much better. It succeeded in driving off the train, but not without sustaining significant damage. From the front fascia to both quarter panels, this Hummer was left pretty banged up, suggesting a rather heavy impact with the train tracks. What these robbers forgot is that while Hummers are known for their robust build, they’re not impenetrable.

Police Involvement

Both vehicles still sit abandoned on-site, with the whole caper under investigation by local authorities. Apparently, no arrests have been made yet, but the story of bold criminal miscalculations has already started making rounds.

Driving a Hummer

For those curious how a GMC Hummer EV feels on the road, imagine this Tank force. Definitely not a nimble sports car, but once behind the wheel with its powerful electric motors churning out an insane amount of horsepower, it feels like owning the road. Compared to other EVs, these Hummers aren’t out to win efficiency awards, but for a large SUV, their capability across varied terrains is pretty impressive.

At retail, these beefy behemoths price around $100,000, offering lux interior stylings and the latest tech features. For smooth, silky drives or off-road escapades, it’s an experience unlike any other—a premium for those seeking adventure on the tarmac and beyond.
