The eQuad

Honda is stepping into the world of urban micromobility with the introduction of its new electric quadricycle, known as the eQuad. This novel little vehicle is primarily designed for last-mile deliveries, aimed at solving the congestion woes in North America’s and Europe’s dense urban areas. Unlike the sporty Acura NSX, the eQuad focuses more on practicality, aiming to meet the current demand for quick and frequent delivery solutions. Its compact design allows it to squeeze through bike lanes with ease.

Configurations and Specs

The eQuad will be offered in multiple configurations to cater to diverse business needs. There will be small and large variants, both equipped with small and large cargo boxes. The small model’s dimensions are 133.9 inches long, 39.4 inches wide, and 82.7 inches high, while the large model measures at 144 inches long, 48 inches wide, and 84 inches tall. These dimensions allow the eQuad to offer cargo capacities ranging from 96 to 148 cubic feet, making it suitable for delivering parcels, groceries, and small packages effectively.

The payload capabilities of the eQuad are equally admirable, with the ability to carry loads from 320 lbs to an impressive 650 lbs. However, don’t expect to break any land-speed records as the top speed of the eQuad is 12 mph. Not built for speed, but absolutely practical for city navigation.

Performance and Range

When it comes to performance, the eQuad is equipped with a “pedal-by-wire” pedal-assist powertrain. It uses swappable batteries paired with regenerative braking, enabling it to achieve a decent range of up to 23 miles on a single charge, depending on the carried load. This performance should be sufficient for a full day’s work in urban settings, especially with the ability to quickly swap out batteries as needed.

The eQuad will also include features that make the ride more comfortable and driver-friendly. This electric quadricycle offers a central bicycle-like seat and handlebars, a digital display for the instrument cluster, along with lighting and mirrors essential for urban navigation.

The Driving Experience

Driving an eQuad is quite different from maneuvering a typical car or even a scooter. It feels more like riding a pedal-assisted bicycle with a chunkier build. The low speed and compact size make it ideal for busy city streets. While it may not offer the adrenaline rush of an NSX, the eQuad is designed for efficiency and utility, making it perfect for businesses that need to breeze through traffic and deliver goods promptly.

Production and Availability

Those interested in this innovative piece can mark their calendars for late 2025 when Honda plans to begin initial deliveries in Europe and North America. The eQuad will be manufactured at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio, previously known for crafting the NSX. Production is expected to increase significantly the following year, and it will be intriguing to see how businesses adapt and utilize these quirky electric quadricycles.
