Super Duty Recall

In today’s world, the rise of over-the-air (OTA) updates has made it easier for automakers to address vehicle recalls without the need for a dealership visit. From handling minor software issues to recalibrating sensors, many problems can be resolved digitally, particularly in electric vehicles. However, not all recalls can be addressed this way, and Ford’s recent recall of its 2025 Super Duty trucks is a prime example of a problem requiring direct mechanical attention.
Ford has made it clear that this recall involves a critical issue that cannot be resolved through software updates alone. This recall pertains to a physical component that’s crucial to the vehicle’s brake system. The severity of the situation has prompted Ford to issue a “Do Not Drive” advisory for affected vehicles, underscoring the importance of immediate action.
What Happened

The recall involves 2,345 units of the 2025 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks manufactured between March 19 and May 4, 2025. While this number might seem limited, the issue itself is significant. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports, some vehicles may have been assembled with a missing retaining spring in the brake pedal assembly. This spring is essential for securely attaching the brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal.
The absence of this component can result in the pushrod detaching, making the brake pedal inoperative and potentially leading to a total loss of braking function. The problem was first discovered in late May 2025, during a pre-delivery inspection, when a technician noticed a brake pedal swinging freely. Following an internal examination, the issue was traced back to an assembly line worker who was still undergoing training at the time. Complicating the matter, inadequate or missing footage during the assembly process left Ford unable to verify the presence of the retaining spring in other vehicles produced during this timeframe.
The Solution

Ford is taking no chances, issuing a “Do Not Drive” recommendation to ensure owner safety. The fix is straightforward: dealers are checking the brake pedal assemblies and installing the missing elements where needed, at no cost to the vehicle owner. The company has begun reaching out to notify owners and provided a platform for VIN checks to determine if their trucks are among those affected.
While no accidents or injuries have been reported, Ford is handling the potential for sudden and complete brake failure with the utmost seriousness. The decisive action emphasizes the importance of addressing even small-scale recalls with the seriousness they require.
Driving Experience
These Super Duty trucks are known for their power and capacity to handle heavy-duty tasks with ease, rivaling competitors like the Chevrolet Silverado HD or the Ram 2500. With engines generating up to 475 horsepower, these trucks offer a robust driving experience, perfect for hauling heavy loads or towing with confidence. Despite the recall, when fully operational, Ford’s Super Duty lineup remains a leader in the field of heavy-duty trucks, combining strength with comfort and durability on the road.
