Ford Dominates Pikes Peak

Taming the Peaks

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is an iconic event in the world of motorsport, and Ford Performance is making a return with a vengeance. Since the first Model T braved the course back in 1916, the company has had its sights set on conquering this challenging Colorado climb. This time, Ford’s bringing along its sharpest tool to date, the Super Mustang Mach-E, to take on the infamous 12.42-mile route filled with 156 hairpin turns.

A New Breed

This Super Mustang Mach-E is not your everyday grocery-getter. It’s been engineered specifically for this kind of daredevilry. Shaving off around 250 pounds compared to its predecessor, like the SuperTruck, the Mach-E is all about nimbleness and balance. That’s a heck of a benefit when racing to the sky, where every ounce counts.

Underneath the hood, if one could call it that, sits a powerhouse trio of ultra-high-performance electric motors churning over 1,400 horsepower. This is dialed back just a touch from its usual track setup to align perfectly with Pikes Peak’s demanding conditions. Adding to its arsenal, the Mach-E boasts 6,900 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, ensuring it hugs the mountain’s tight curves with unwavering grip.

Regenerative braking, producing a hefty 710 kW, plays a crucial role in replenishing energy reserves during the climb’s numerous twists, effectively turning the car’s kinetic energy back into a charged battery.

Steering the Beast

The Super Mustang Mach-E wouldn’t just roar up the mountain on its own. It needs a seasoned hand, and Ford has recruited Pikes Peak legend Romain Dumas for the job. Known for having set the all-time course record driving a Volkswagen, Dumas is tasked with pushing the Blue Oval’s beast to its limits, merging skill with innovation in a bid to etch Ford’s name deeper into the hill climb history.

The stakes are high, and the competition is as fierce as ever. This year on June 22, 2025, is not only about the Mach-E. Ford will face other pioneering technological marvels, like the Honda CR-V e:FCEV, aiming to be the first hydrogen-powered vehicle to finish the ascent.

For those passionate about speed and innovation, this year’s Pikes Peak is shaping to be quite the showdown, showcasing not only cutting-edge electric power but also setting the stage for what the future holds in the world of competitive motorsport racing.
