A New Kind of Delivery Vehicle: Fiat TRIS

Fiat, a name synonymous with compact city cars like the Panda and the 500, has ventured into new territory with the introduction of the Fiat TRIS, a three-wheeled ultra-light commercial vehicle designed specifically for last-mile deliveries. This compact EV (Electric Vehicle) is an innovative solution catering primarily to urban environments in the Middle East and Africa, with possible expansion to Europe.
Specs and Features

The TRIS sports a novel three-wheel design, available in three configurations: chassis-cab, flatbed, and pickup. Its compact dimensions make it ideally suited for tight city spaces, measuring just over 10 feet (124.8 inches) in length. A 12 hp electric motor coupled with a 6.9 kWh battery powers the TRIS, delivering a driving range of 56 miles on a full charge. Charging up this little electric workhorse takes about 4 hours and 40 minutes using a standard 220V outlet.
Cargo and Capacity
Despite its diminutive size, the Fiat TRIS impresses with a cargo area of 24.2 square feet and can haul a payload of nearly 1,191 pounds. The overall design includes thoughtful touches such as a 5.7-inch digital display, USB-C port for device charging, and a spacious seat to accommodate long delivery routes. The open design ensures quick and easy ingress and egress, crucial for a delivery vehicle making numerous stops throughout the day.
Driving Experience
When it comes to maneuverability, the TRIS is like no other. Think of it like a robust moped on three wheels; it’s lightweight, nimble, and perfectly suited for the hustle and bustle of city deliveries. The 12-inch wheels and extended wheelbase help maintain stability. While it doesn’t pack the raw grunt of larger vehicles, this electric dynamo is all about efficiency and ease of use. In terms of ride quality, expect it to feel more akin to driving a go-kart than piloting a traditional vehicle. It’s built for efficiency, not speed, with a top speed likely in the ballpark of the electric scooters and quads Fiat manufactures alongside it in Morocco.
Market Potential
Fiat CEO Olivier Francois envisions the TRIS as more than just a vehicle; it’s a catalyst for change, particularly in its initial markets. The focus is on enhancing mobility and enabling economic growth through affordable, sustainable transportation solutions. As the vehicle rolls out across various regions, it could well become a staple in urban delivery fleets worldwide, offering a practical and environmentally friendly alternative to more traditional delivery vehicles.
Production is based in Morocco, alongside other compact EVs like the Citroen Ami and the Opel Rocks Electric. While official pricing details are yet to be announced, the Fiat TRIS is expected to be attractively priced, making it an enticing prospect for businesses looking to modernize their delivery fleets without breaking the bank.
