Recently, a company called Tesbros has introduced a mirror delete kit for the Tesla Cybertruck. This modification is aimed at Cybertruck owners who are not fans of the standard wing mirrors. The kit’s design is a nod to the original Cybertruck concept, which didn’t feature any wing mirrors. With the removal of the mirrors, the Cybertruck takes on a sleeker, more futuristic appearance, but real-world practicality needs to be considered.

Legalities

Before diving into the modification game, it’s important to check the local laws regarding vehicle mirrors. Most states in the U.S. require vehicles to have at least the driver’s side mirror, while others might require both. Some states, like Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, and Montana have more lenient laws. In these states, removing the mirrors might be workable, albeit unconventional.

The Kit

The initial batch of 80 kits by Tesbros featured genuine stainless steel, reclaimed from Tesla pickup manufacturing processes, offering a direct match to the Cybertruck’s aesthetic. Future batches are set to utilize aluminum and possibly plastic to maintain appearance but at a lower cost. The stainless steel kits retailed for $299, and despite the simplicity of the components, they sold out. The kit comes with a small piece of stainless steel and an ABS plastic piece to replace the mirrors and cover the mounting points left on the doors.

Installation and Concerns

Installing the kit involves securing the stainless steel plate, which screws into the existing mounts for a durable fit. Despite its clever design, some consumers have noted issues with the durability of the adhesive used, reporting pieces detaching at speed. Although replacements have resolved these issues, it’s a critical aspect potential buyers should consider. The kit promises resilience across various climates, which is crucial in places like Arizona, with its scorching summer heat.

Driving Feel

Without mirrors, the Cybertruck undoubtedly boasts a cleaner look, but this comes at the expense of practicality. For drivers familiar with traditional pickups, the loss of side mirror functionality may feel unsettling at first.
