BMW Charges Ahead

BMW has been flexing its muscles in the EV market recently. Their reports from the first quarter of 2025 show quite a surge in electric vehicle sales — up by 26.4 percent. This bumps their overall sales by 3.7 percent, while MINI has seen a 9.5 percent increase. These gains, comparing Q1 2025 to Q1 2024, are pretty impressive, especially since the first quarter isn’t typically known for bustling auto sales. Looks like folks didn’t manage to get their hands on the BMW i4 M50 during holiday shopping and decided not to wait any longer.
By the Numbers

BMW moved 13,538 electrified vehicles in Q1 2025, a notable rise from the 9,713 sold the year before. The i5 model, which is newer on the block, tallied up 1,899 units. The spotlight, however, is on the i4, with 7,125 cars leaving the lot, leading the pack in EV sales for BMW. The iX is also making its mark with 3,626 sales, and even the luxurious i7 caught some eyes with 888 units sold.
But it’s not all gravy. Sales of the i5 slipped by 15.2 percent from 239 to a modest 203, and the i7 saw a 10.4 percent drop. For the i7, it’s not too surprising given the premium price point and the model’s seasoned presence. On the flip side, the jump in iX sales by 23.1 percent and the staggering 57 percent climb for the i4 indicates a clear trend: people are leaning towards those smaller yet sporty EV options. Last year, half of the 4 Series sales in the U.S. were attributed to the i4.
MINI’s Big Moves

MINI’s results for 2025 indicate that buyers are keen on going bigger. The sales figures hit 6,976, a 9.5 percent hike from the previous year’s 6,369. The larger MINI Countryman, essentially a small SUV that’s giant by MINI’s standards, is winning over the crowd. These roomier vehicles attract those seeking quality without losing the fun factor. Meanwhile, MINI’s classic Cooper remains a staple for those preferring the more traditional two-door style.
Looking Ahead
There’s a looming question mark around BMW’s electrification strategy for their core SUVs in the U.S. Once they’re electrified, expect a sizeable boost in sales for BMW’s EV lineup. Timing the vehicle launches impeccably and securing enough lithium for widespread production might see BMW doubling their EV sales by 2026. With next-gen battery technology and the Neue Klasse vehicle platform on the horizon, BMW is poised for a bigger leap into the electric future.
