Audi’s New Models Unveiled

At the Shanghai Auto Show, Audi has introduced a range of long-wheelbase models aimed at providing more interior room than ever before. The lineup includes the A5L, A5L Sportback, Q5L, and A6L e-tron. This is a significant move, especially considering how much the Chinese market values extra legroom and comfort.
A5L and A5L Sportback
The Audi A5L and its sibling, the A5L Sportback, stand out with their increased lengths. The A5L offers an additional 3 inches over its standard edition, prioritizing rear-seat comfort with advanced features like thicker padding and the ability to recline up to 28 degrees. Both models come equipped with digital luxuries such as an 11.9-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.5-inch infotainment screen.
Powering these vehicles is a hybridized 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to its seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the A5L Sportback can go from 0 to 62 mph in about 6.4 seconds.
The A5L Sportback also features a stylish touch: a panoramic sunroof capable of shifting from clear to opaque instantly, alongside a premium Bang & Olufsen sound setup.
A6L e-tron
Then comes the A6L e-tron, which stretches the wheelbase by up to 5.2 inches, a key to comfortably accommodating more passengers. What really sets it apart is its massive 107 kWh battery providing a jaw-dropping 478 miles of range on a single charge. For those concerned with time, the 270 kW fast charger gets you from 10% to 80% battery power in a mere 20 minutes.
Dual motors running a full all-wheel-drive system ensure that performance is by no means compromised, and air suspension keeps rides smooth regardless of the distance traveled.
Q5L
Capping off Audi’s lineup is the Q5L, which sees an increase of 4.9 inches in length to boost its interior volume. Under the hood, mild-hybrid technology complements a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, creating a balance of efficiency and sporty aggressiveness.
Driving Impressions
Piloting any of these long-wheelbase models offers a ride characterized by significant smoothness and stable control, particularly useful when dealing with city traffic or long highway cruises. Thanks to updated powertrains and suspension systems, these cars offer a driving experience that’s a step above their shorter, traditional counterparts in terms of comfort and tech-enabled convenience.
The A6L e-tron stands out for not only its range but its effortless electric drive. Compared to rivals like the Tesla Model S, it aims to harmonize luxury with technological prowess while offering an alternative to traditional combustion engines without compromising range.
