Aston Adds CarPlay

Aston Martin Embraces Apple CarPlay Ultra

When it comes to merging advanced technology with automotive luxury, Aston Martin raises the bar yet again. This iconic British carmaker has become the first in the world to integrate Apple CarPlay Ultra into its vehicles. This cutting-edge software enhancement ushers in a new era of connectivity by seamlessly integrating iPhone apps into not only Aston Martin’s infotainment system but also the digital instrument clusters of their vehicles.

Integration Details

Any Apple user with an iPhone 12 or newer and running on iOS 18.5 will be able to take advantage of CarPlay Ultra. Aston Martin models such as the DBX, Vantage, DB12, and Vanquish are set to receive this software enhancement right away. As for the existing 2025 models and 2024 DB12s, updates through Aston Martin’s dealer network are just around the corner.

The CEO of Aston Martin, Adrian Hallmark, mentioned how cooperating with Apple showcases their dedication to enhancing customer experiences with unique, integrated vehicle capabilities. Hallmark states, “The integration of CarPlay Ultra is a clear example of our desire to collaborate with world-leading innovators to provide our customers with advanced in-vehicle technologies.”

Technology Highlights

The 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen of Aston Martin cars, or the digital instrument cluster, will now seamlessly display Apple’s familiar interface, offering maps, music, and even lane guidance. What truly sets CarPlay Ultra apart is its capability to interact with the car’s core functions like audio settings, climate control, and performance tweaks directly from the CarPlay interface, which will show these features among the speedometer and tire pressure indicators. Physical controls for transmission, drive modes, and climate will remain, complemented by override switches for various car systems like the chassis and Lane Assist.

Swiping to the right on CarPlay brings users to a new widgets menu that showcases the time and weather, among other iPhone widget favorites. Importantly, the functions aren’t merely mirrored from the iPhone but are carried out using Aston Martin’s own user interface, ensuring that one does not have to exit CarPlay to engage with vehicle-specific features.

“Together with automakers like Aston Martin, we are reimagining the in-car experience,” remarked Bob Borchers, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing. This next-generation CarPlay aims to offer a smart, integrated approach to using iPhones inside vehicles, enhancing both safety and usability.

Driving Forward

While Aston Martin has taken the lead in this technological leap, Apple’s latest CarPlay Ultra feature isn’t exclusive to this deluxe automaker. It is scheduled to expand into Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis cars, each implementation featuring a unique design tailored to the brand’s aesthetics. “This is just the beginning, with more automakers on the way,” Borchers hinted. It’s an exciting time for car enthusiasts who appreciate luxury and technology blending harmoniously.
