The Citroen Ami Buggy

The Citroen Ami Buggy is back, and this time it’s available to more than just a lucky few. Previously offered as a limited edition, the Ami Buggy is now part of Citroen’s regular lineup, assuring availability for those eager to experience its unique design.
Design Tweaks
This new iteration stays true to its open-air roots, sporting that eye-catching design with gold-finished steel wheels. The new version of the Ami Buggy brings the same beach-friendly vibe, perfect for those who love the summer breeze. The doors get an interesting twist, replacing regular ones with Wrangler-inspired metal hoops. Zipped door covers are available, should the weather take a turn.
Inside and Out
The updated design nods to Citroen’s heritage with elements like the familiar 2CV-style side gills. While it maintains its quirky appeal, a big roof spoiler and the 14-inch wheels give it a tad more presence on the road.
Performance
Under the quirky exterior, the Ami Buggy runs on the same mechanics as the standard Ami model. It’s powered by a humble 8 horsepower electric motor reaching a top speed of 28 mph. The small but efficient 5.5 kWh battery can get you around 47 miles before needing a recharge, which only takes about four hours from a regular home socket.
Variants and Pricing
Citroen is expanding its Ami lineup with some intriguing options. Besides the Buggy, there’s the Ami Cargo and the Ami for All, designed for cargo needs and improved accessibility, respectively. In terms of style, the Ami Buggy Palmeira version stands out with its yellow accents and design decals. Prices in Europe kick off at around $9,100 for the basic Ami, while the quirky Ami Buggy starts at roughly $10,900.
Driving Feel
Driving the Ami Buggy is an experience akin to taking a leisurely stroll in a park. It’s not about speed but rather about enjoying the ride and the attention it garners. Compared to your typical American vehicle, it’s super compact and nimble. If the intention is a fun, urban jaunt, this is the go-to, but it won’t replace a Ford F-150 if heavy-duty work is your thing.
All in all, the Citroen Ami Buggy is more than a car; it’s a statement. Its charm doesn’t lie in raw power or blazing speed, but rather in its quirky character and fun design, much like a modern-day automotive smile on wheels!
