Mercedes-AMG is taking a bold step into the electric world with its first standalone performance EV. This ambitious project is aimed directly at the likes of the Porsche Taycan. This new EV isn’t just any electric vehicle; it’s AMG’s first dedicated model using their brand new architecture, the AMG.EA. This platform is specifically built for electric vehicles and will likely be the foundation for future AMG models, including a rumored high-riding SUV.

Impressive Specs

So what’s hiding under the hood, or rather, beneath the body since it’s an EV? Each motor, developed by Yasa, a Mercedes subsidiary, delivers about 480 horsepower and a whopping 590 lb-ft of torque. It’s expected that the AMG fastback will be available either as a dual-motor or a quad-motor setup, delivering anywhere from 1,000 to nearly 2,000 horsepower.

Even with just two motors, this new AMG has the power to take on the Taycan Turbo S. Add more motors, and it might just challenge the 1,093-horsepower Taycan Turbo GT.

Design and Practicality

The design is every bit as sharp and sleek as you’d expect from a performance brand like AMG. The front resembles that classic Porsche 911 curve, tapering aggressively to the rear end. However, unlike the Taycan, AMG has opted for a liftback design, a choice that combines good looks with practical functionality, making trunk access easier.
