EV Sales Surge

So, here’s the scoop: The electric vehicle (EV) scene is really picking up steam. In March 2025, EVs snagged a 9.3% share of the market in the U.S., up from 8.4% the previous year. Despite car price hikes linked to tariffs on imports, interest in EVs remains strong. Around 23% of those in the market for a new ride are leaning towards electric options. Tesla might be slipping in brand appeal, but it’s still getting the most attention from EV shoppers, leaving Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota trailing behind.
Over in places like Illinois, incentives are giving EV sales a serious boost. Registrations in the state climbed from 6,535 to a whopping 9,821. Thanks to ComEd’s $90 million incentive program, businesses and public sector customers could get rebates of $20,000 to $30,000, which is definitely motivating folks to jump on the EV wagon. After a sluggish Q4 in 2024, nation-wide EV sales spiked by 12% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2025.
SUVs in Charge

In the SUV corner, Chevrolet’s Equinox EV and Blazer EV gave GM a sales boost of 94%. Ford’s Mustang Mach-E marked a personal best with over 11,607 units sold in Q1. Meanwhile, Stellantis is joining the EV party late with their new Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona EVs. Porsche wasn’t slacking either, setting a Q1 sales record fueled in part by their electric Taycan, which is quickly making waves as one of their most popular models stateside.
American roads are buzzing with a total of about 4,092,200 electric vehicles, reflecting a jump by 2 million cars since 2022. Over in Europe, Germany is ahead of the curve too. EVs made up a slice of 27.1% of the market as of March, with the Volkswagen ID.7 leading the charge.
What’s Next
Now, despite Tesla hitting a rough patch with a significant sales dip, the rise of legacy automakers filling the EV void is impressive. Chevrolet’s new models are gaining traction and showing that the EV journey is far from stalling. The driving experience in these electric SUVs is something on its own, usually offering a smooth, quiet ride with instant torque that’s difficult to match in traditional gas-powered SUVs. With incentives driving the market and rebates making EVs more accessible, expect more Americans to swap out their gas guzzlers for electric counterparts. Keep an eye on brands like Dodge and Jeep as they try to catch up with front-runners in the electric race.
