F1 Legends’ McLarens

McLaren MP4-12C

Remember the McLaren MP4-12C? It was McLaren’s key player for getting back into the supercar scene after the original F1 set the bar so high. Now, some of these beauties have a bit more story to them than just their engineering prowess. Two of these cars, previously owned by Formula 1 legends Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, are hitting the auction block in Italy.

Distinctive Features

Hamilton’s McLaren is decked out in Volcano Red, showing off one of McLaren’s signature colors. It’s not just about the paint, though—this car has the optional carbon fiber exterior package, a Stealth Package, and those sleek Satin Dark Grey five-spoke wheels. The interior is a mix of Harissa Red and Black Alcantara, accented with carbon fiber elements, which screams luxury. This car’s been driven sparingly, with just 5,553 miles on it.

As for Button’s ride, it’s styled in Elite Pearl White and features a similar two-toned interior. However, Button’s car goes for leather instead of Alcantara. This one has been driven a bit more, clocking in at 7,728 miles, and has also been well-maintained over the years.

Auction Details

So, where’s the catch? Both cars will be on sale at the Broad Arrow Auctions event at Villa d’Este. Hamilton’s former ride is expected to sell for somewhere between $199,000 and $256,000, while Button’s McLaren might fetch around $142,000 to $170,000. These are steep prices, especially when you consider that another used MP4-12C in the US can be found for under $100,000. But of course, those ones don’t have the celebrity ownership and history that these do.

Driving Experience

The McLaren MP4-12C is not just about celebrity allure. Driving one is like being in command of a light, nimble, and precise machine. With a twin-turbo V8 engine pushing out 592 horsepower, it’s got the juice to match the high-octane pedigree it comes from. Imagine taking corners with the kind of ease and stability that usually requires active aero—it’s the kind of thrill that most supercars aspire to deliver. Compared to similar models, like a Ferrari 458 or Lamborghini Gallardo, the MP4-12C feels like a surgeon’s scalpel, offering refinement with brutal power under the hood.

If interested, dive into the auction listings. With a bit of F1 history and the drive of a lifetime, these McLarens pack more than just horsepower—they pack a history and prestige that’s hard to find.
