A Unique Ride

Every now and then, something comes along that makes you do a double-take, and what Renault Argentina did with the Kangoo Express is one of those moments. They’ve transformed a practical van into a convertible limousine designed for tours around their factory. This quirky project is not your average car, but that’s what makes it so intriguing. Let’s dive into this unique ride and see what makes it tick.
Custom Design
Renault took the Kangoo Express van, already a solid performer among commercial vehicles, and gave it a one-of-a-kind makeover. The most radical change is chopping off the roof to create an open-air passenger experience. The wheelbase has been extended to accommodate four rows of seats, allowing this limo to carry up to nine passengers comfortably. The interior now resembles a small bus more than a van.
The exterior features a wrap with the colors of the Argentinian flag, subtly interwoven with graphics inspired by the Renault emblem. From the front, it still looks like a Kangoo, but that’s where the similarities end. The Kangoo Limo retains the vehicle’s front and rear section, but everything in between is practically bespoke.
Under the Hood
The original Kangoo offers two powertrain options in Argentina. A 1.6-liter gasoline engine punches out 112 horsepower, providing enough oomph for most urban duties. There’s also a 1.5-liter diesel engine that delivers 88 horsepower. It’s clear these engines aren’t set to win any drag races, but they offer decent torque for city driving.
The Unique Purpose
Renault Argentina intends to use this limo for factory tours, giving visitors, including school kids, a memorable ride as they explore the Santa Isabel plant. However, as the plant is currently undergoing preparations for a new compact truck, tours won’t be on the schedule just yet.
This new vehicle offering, hinted at by the Niagara Concept, will likely bring fresh tech to the compact truck segment with potential hybrid options. Once everything’s set, the Kangoo Limo will become a key part of these tours.
While driving may not be on par with a sporty coupe or even a traditional luxury sedan, the Kangoo limo isn’t about performance. Its charm lies in the experience. Imagine being driven around like a parade float, sitting above a sea of passengers, all enjoying the breeze and greater headroom. It may not handle like a Porsche, but for the job it’s designed to do, it’s pretty much a home run.
