The New Toyota Land Cruiser

Toyota has taken the Land Cruiser’s rugged reputation to the next level with the introduction of a commercial van version aimed at professionals in the UK. The iconic SUV has undergone a factory-backed transformation, turning it into a light commercial vehicle by swapping out its rear seats for a spacious cargo area.
Specs & Features
This version of the Land Cruiser retains its off-road prowess, powered by a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine paired with a full-time four-wheel-drive system. Excitingly, all 2026 European and UK models will incorporate a mild-hybrid diesel powertrain for improved efficiency. The new drivetrain should offer a more refined and quieter stop-start experience while maintaining substantial off-road capabilities, including a 27.6-inch wading depth.
The commercial model boasts a cargo space of 70.6 cubic feet, slightly less than its predecessor’s 78.3 cubic feet, but still substantial for its intended use. With a towing capacity of 7,000 pounds, it’s built for tough jobs. The starting price in the UK is set at £52,729, roughly $70,600, with availability beginning in August and deliveries in September.
Interior and Design
Despite being a commercial variant, visually it doesn’t stray far from the standard Land Cruiser we all know. The most significant changes are on the inside, where the rear seats have been swapped out for a flat loading floor and a metal bulkhead to safely divide the cargo area from the driver. The cargo floor runs over 66 inches in length.
In terms of tech and comfort, it’s well-equipped. Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, heated seats and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a 9-inch infotainment system, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and Toyota’s Safety Sense for driver assistance. A powered tailgate with a separate window hatch adds a touch of practicality.
Driving Experience
Behind the wheel, the Land Cruiser Commercial feels like the robust and reliable SUV it has always been, just with a little more practicality for businesses. The inclusion of the mild-hybrid system doesn’t revolutionize the driving experience but adds a subtle layer of smoothness to the engine’s operation and the acceleration feel. Unlike typical commercial vans, it offers a more comfortable ride akin to an SUV, which can be invaluable for long hauls off the beaten path or in difficult terrains. Its competition might include lighter-duty pickups or commercial offerings like the Ford Transit Custom, but the Land Cruiser’s off-road pedigree sets it apart in terms of versatility.
With this latest release, Toyota is catering to a specific niche—those who need a vehicle that works hard but also plays hard, seamlessly capable of traversing various landscapes without a fuss.
