Drivetrain Details

Reports from Japan’s Best Car Web hint that this Lexus take on the Supra might be dubbed the LC+RC Integrated Sports. Now that’s quite a mouthful, and one can’t help but think it’s a placeholder for something snazzier. What’s more telling is that it might replace both the RC and LC models, indicating Lexus is ready for a reboot.

The upcoming Supra is anticipated to house a 2.0-liter turbocharged hybrid powertrain with power directed to the back wheels. Drivers might find themselves toggling between an eight-speed or a ten-speed automatic, albeit with no manual transmission in sight. There’s curious chatter about Toyota possibly borrowing Mazda’s refined inline-six engine. If the rumors hold, this powerhouse, which manages up to 340 horsepower in the CX-90, might get a boost for these sports machines. This isn’t the first time the two car giants have shared engines; Mazda’s and Toyota’s CX-50 Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid are already sharing under the hood.

Expect a seating deviation too. Supra’s sticking to its guns with the two-seat model. Meanwhile, Lexus might go for a 2+2 reality. A convertible? That could be on the cards too.
