Revamp

Imagining the 1968 Ford Mustang, one might envision cruising down Main Street on a Friday night, windows down, feeling invincible. But this particular Mustang is taking things up a notch. It’s a restomod, so while it retains that unmistakable retro vibe, it’s loaded with goodies that make it scream down the road like a modern sports car. The best part? It’s hitting the auction block at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special on July 12.
Under the Hood
This beast is powered by a ferocious 5.0-liter V8 engine, going by the name Aluminator XS. It churns out over 500 horsepower, meaning it’s got more muscle than a heavyweight champ. The manual six-speed Tremec gearbox paired with it ensures an old-school driving experience, letting the driver really feel in control of that power. Supporting it are Mahle forged pistons, built to withstand quite a beating, and an 8.8-inch rear end. The car rolls on CCW wheels wrapped with sticky BF Goodrich tires, ensuring the power isn’t wasted as smoke. It’s like packing the heart of a lion into the body of a vintage Mustang.
Handling and Safety
Keeping this steed stable on the road is a suspension from Griggs Racing. Every corner feels precise, sharp enough to slice pumpkin pie without breaking form. The brakes are Wilwood discs, capable of bringing this classic muscle car to a halt quickly. Inside, a rollcage ensures safety in case things get hairy. Its removable sidebars make sure getting in and out doesn’t feel like a task.
Interior Touches
Open the door, and the first thing catching the eye is the leather upholstered bucket seats, hugging drivers and passengers alike. Safety harnesses add to the snug feeling. The dashboard doesn’t shy away from showing its modern take either. Equipped with Classic Instruments gauges, a Vintage Air HVAC system, and a Sony sound system, complete with a subwoofer, it speaks the language of a modern car while reminiscing its old days.
The Ride
In terms of driving experience, imagine a blend between nostalgia and modernity. It’s like that ride in dad’s old car, but the engine growls more fiercely, the drive feels tighter, and yet it doesn’t forget its roots. The precision of the handling might remind one of newer Mustangs, but the raw sensation of the manual gearbox and the potent rumble of the V8 are pure classic. It’s where old-school muscle meets new-world engineering.
