The P1 Evo Project

Back in the day, the automotive world was taken by storm with the release of what many dubbed the “hypercar holy trinity” – the Ferrari LaFerrari, the McLaren P1, and the Porsche 918 Spyder. Though each played its part in thrilling gearheads, few could anticipate that one day, a YouTuber would step in to reboot one of these legends with a fresh design and boosted performance. That’s what Tavarish, a spirited car enthusiast and online personality, aims to achieve with one of the mere 375 McLaren P1 hypercars that exist. What adds intrigue to this endeavor is the involvement of Frank Stephenson, the mind behind the original McLaren design. Together, they are charting a course to create a singular masterpiece known as the P1 Evo. This isn’t just a cosmetic upgrade; they’re ambitiously planning to up the ante in terms of power, transforming a technology marvel already on the brink.
Engine Upgrade
The original P1 packed quite the punch. Its powertrain was a combination of a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and a single electric motor, collaborating to deliver 903 horsepower. With the P1 Evo, Tavarish intends to up the stakes significantly. The plan involves swapping out the engine for the M840T, a more brawny 4.0-liter V8, often found in McLaren’s 720S and 750S models. Maintaining the standard turbocharger frames but opting for larger wheels, this daring duo aims for a 1,400 horsepower target – nearly a 50% increase. The purpose? To outpace the speed of the original P1, which topped out at 217 mph, and even try surpassing McLaren’s own Speedtail, clocking in at 250 mph.
Design and Future Prospects
As of now, the P1 Evo’s new look isn’t set in stone, and Frank Stephenson promises this is just the beginning of a series of bold designs up his sleeve. This project is not merely about a flashy redesign but an entire overhaul intended to be revealed at the SEMA Show, a mecca for car tuning enthusiasts. The ultimate goal? Test this reworked beast perhaps in the coming years at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, an apt location for something destined to push boundaries.
Behind the Project
Freddy “Tavarish” Hernandez isn’t just altering a P1 willy-nilly; this car has already been battle-tested by nature. Believe it or not, this specific P1, numbered #348, fell victim to the damaging floods of Hurricane Ian back in 2022. Purchased for north of $500,000 – a steal in the hypercar realm – Tavarish recognized a restoration, in the traditional sense, was unfeasible. Usually valued between $1.35 million and $2 million, keeping it as is wasn’t really an option. This left room for creativity, albeit controversial, with some considering such a transformation of an engineering marvel to be beyond bold.
The Driving Experience
Imagine gliding along a runway with the force of 1,400 horses underfoot. The reimagined P1 Evo is proposed to deliver an enhanced, if not entirely different, driving experience. Given the potential for achieving over 250 mph, the P1 Evo might set a new standard against its brethren and contemporary rivals. This isn’t just about brute force; the design narrative implies there’s finesse in its handling, targeted to rival even the more esteemed speedsters. As more design details unfold and as the Evo cruises closer to reality, it’s bound to stir a variety of discussions, both on and off the track.
