In the world of motorsport, showcasing both style and substance is key. HWA, a name synonymous with racing prowess, is ready to take their Evo to the next level by entering two race-prepped versions in the prestigious 2026 Nurburgring 24 Hours. This event will feature the Evo, a modern take on the iconic Mercedes 190 Evolution II, in the challenging SP-X class.

Event Highlights

This past weekend, during the 2025 N24 event, HWA revealed two of its development cars sporting full motorsport livery. These vehicles provided spectators with a taste of what’s to come. Within the same event, legend drivers Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig were on hand for some demo laps. These two seasoned racers bring a touch of history, having piloted the original Evo IIs to success in the ’90s DTM championships.

Over the next year, Asch and Ludwig will be hands-on, fine-tuning these race versions, based on a model priced at a hefty €776,000 ($872,000). While new drivers will take over for the big race in 2026, these legends’ expertise will lay a solid foundation for performance. The aim? To lead in the SP-X experimental class, albeit without the pressure of competing against the leading GT3 contenders.

Racing Heritage

HWA carries impressive motorsport credentials, rooted in the legacy crafted by its founder Hans Werner Aufrecht, a pivotal figure in AMG’s history. After selling AMG to Mercedes in 1998, Aufrecht continued the motorsport spirit through HWA, upholding the racing standards for the automotive giant.

In a true homage to its lineage, HWA’s Evo looks to the 190 Evolution II not just for design cues but also for racing excellence. The reimagined Evo is much more than just a nod to the past. Equipped with a bi-turbo V6 engine producing 493 horsepower, this car is poised to hold its own on modern tracks.

Future Plans

As of now, most of the 100 limited-run Evos planned are already spoken for before their production begins next year. HWA is already looking ahead, hinting at a ’90s-inspired model featuring V8 power. Beyond that, the ambitious goal is to venture into the realm of hypercar production, marking a new chapter by the decade’s end.

With such a strong background and future-forward vision, HWA isn’t just preserving its racing legacy—it’s pushing it into exciting new territories. While not all can get behind the wheel of their $872,000 Evo, the spirit of innovation and commitment to speed continues to inspire automotive enthusiasts around the globe.
