The Next-Gen Mazda CX-5 Has Arrived

So, there’s some big news in SUV land! The Mazda CX-5, one of the best-sellers in its category, is getting a serious makeover. People have been buzzing about this SUV for years, and now it looks like Mazda’s ready to shake things up with new styling, technology, and even a hybrid option. A leaked photo snuck out recently, showing off the new design without any of that pesky camouflage. It suggests we might not be too far away from seeing the official introduction, possibly arriving as a 2026 model in the United States.

Design Updates

The overall look feels refreshed yet maintains that familiarity. The first thing that catches the eye is the headlight design. Those new headlights kind of curve into the grille, giving it a striking appearance, almost like the design seen on some higher-end models like the old Mercedes-Benz EQC. The grille has been tweaked too, sporting a new pattern with thinner chrome accents, and the lower air intake has been expanded for a more defined front-end look.

There’s unpainted plastic cladding around the wheel arches, adding a rugged vibe. But don’t be surprised if higher trims offer body-colored panels for a sleeker appearance. The hybrid will feature Mazda’s upcoming SkyActiv-Z gasoline engine, a move aimed at enhancing both fuel efficiency and performance. Just a heads-up—the engine won’t be part of the lineup until later in 2027. So, when this model launches, expect it to come with an existing powertrain initially.

Inside the CX-5

Look to see some lofty improvements inside the new CX-5. Expect to find upscale materials and tech borrowed from Mazda’s more premium models, which should mean a nicer cabin experience. There’s talk of a larger infotainment system, possibly snagging a few design notes from Mazda’s CX-90 model. Driving a Mazda usually means having a great time. Historically, Mazda’s been a brand that’s focused on driving dynamics, and there’s no reason to believe this new CX-5 will be any different. Each of these models has its own hybrid versions, so adding a hybrid CX-5 to the lineup is definitely a competitive move.
