2026 BMW XM Launch

2026 BMW XM Preview

New for 2026

The 2026 BMW XM has just made its big debut, right before the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. This time around, BMW’s tidying up by dropping its entry-level variant to focus solely on the high-powered XM Label. The reason behind it isn’t hard to guess—the base version didn’t quite hit the sales mark, with only 1,974 units sold last year stateside, and sales dipping by about 14.7% from the previous year.

Performance

The XM Label now sports a powerhouse plug-in hybrid system, marrying a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. This beast roars out a hearty 738 horsepower and a substantial 738 lb-ft of torque. It’s quick on its feet too, sprinting 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.6 seconds, ultimately peaking at a top speed of around 175 mph if equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Charging and Styling

When it comes to charging, the updated XM features an improved AC charging capacity from 7.4 kW to 11 kW, promising faster recharge times, although specific figures weren’t disclosed. Styling updates are mostly subtle, like a fancy new welcome light animation, an extra paint choice with the Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic, and all-new 23-inch M Jet Black wheels that add a dash of elegance.

Interior Extras

Inside, there are a trio of new leather themes—Night Blue Full Merino with Vintage Coffee accents, Black Full Merino with Vintage Coffee, and Silverstone Extended Merino with Black accents. There’s also an added comfort touch with matching rear seat cushions for those going for the Merino Leather option.

Pricing and Production

Production is set to kick off this August in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While BMW hasn’t put an exact price tag on the XM yet, predictions are it’ll be around the $190,000 mark—up from $186,700 for the 2025 model, considering the cheaper base model is now off the table.

The Experience

Behind the wheel, the 2026 XM feels powerful and aggressive, yet surprisingly refined. The V8 growls with authority, and the electric motor ensures instant torque delivery, providing a seamless and exhilarating drive. It’s arguably more thrilling than an X5 M but offers a ride that feels quite similar to the Audi Q8 in terms of luxury and comfort, while the AMG GLE 63 might give it a run for its money in raw performance. The XM manages to carve out its niche by blending BMW’s performance pedigree with a touch of hybrid sophistication.
