The entry-level trim, now called the Dynamic S, features unique wheels and a gloss-black exterior finish. The Landmark trim caters to outdoor enthusiasts with mountain-themed details in the interior and features like a panoramic roof, perfect for stargazing or spotting summits. It also includes a 3D camera that could prevent unfortunate encounters with obstacles, whether they’re rugged trails or a suburban driveway.

For those who fancy a bit more luxury, the Metropolitan trim ups the ante with a sleek silver grille, comforting 14-way adjustable heated and cooled seats, and an impressive Meridian sound system featuring 14 speakers driven by 650 watts. This trim rolls on sophisticated 20-inch alloy wheels, adding a polished air to its robust stance.

The Discovery Sport also offers adventure-themed accessory packs, ideal for road trips or beach outings. These packs include practical utilities like sunshades and roof boxes, enhancing both utility and leisure potential.

Under the Hood

While there are no changes to the standard all-wheel-drive system, the engine options remain consistent with previous offerings. Stateside, the Discovery Sport is powered by a range of four-cylinder engines, although diesel and plug-in hybrid models are reserved for the European market.

Future Prospects

The elephant in the room is the upcoming Defender Sport, anticipated to replace the Discovery Sport in the coming years. The Defender Sport promises to blend the rugged charm of the Defender name with the compact SUV genre, likely featuring a more daring design and up-to-date tech. For now, though, those interested in the Discovery Sport’s balance of luxury and utility have at least a few annual iterations to contemplate.

The Drive

When it comes to driving experience, the Discovery Sport is all about blending comfort with capability. Its terrain response systems make it versatile across various driving conditions, although on pavement, it doesn’t quite match the car-like handling of some competitors like the BMW X3 or Audi Q5. Yet, its ability to transition from a refined city cruiser to an adept off-roader remains compelling for those whose lifestyles require both.
