Speeding Teen’s Job Rush

Need for Speed: A 19-Year-Old’s Race Against Time

Every so often, a wild tale from the highways captures attention beyond the automotive world. Such is the case with a 19-year-old from Connecticut. He was found hurtling down the interstate at a breakneck speed of 132 mph, well over double what might be considered sensible. Why? He claimed he was late for a job interview.

The morning unfolded with police spotting a Mercedes-Benz E300 zooming through Interstate 91 near Cromwell just before 9 a.m. This wasn’t a simple case of speeding; the young driver was weaving through traffic, performing unsafe lane changes as if the road was his personal Nascar track. Law enforcement, witnessing the potential chaos unfolding, decided it was too risky to pursue, especially at such high speeds, and wisely called off the chase.

Despite pulling back, officers had enough from their observations and the speed reading to justify tracking down this speedster. The car clocked at a staggering 132 mph, caught on a speed laser, seemed more fitting for a race track than a morning commute.

Post-event, authorities used the vehicle’s license plate to locate the registered owner. A few calls later, it emerged that the car was being driven by Azmir Djurkovic, a resident of Cromwell, who was indeed the family’s youthful driver.

Upon being confronted, Djurkovic didn’t dispute the morning’s events. To the officers, as if out of a scene from a fast-paced action movie, he confessed his urgency was spurred by being late for a crucial job interview. As incredible as it sounds, this explanation was part and parcel of the official police documentation.

The adrenaline-charged escapade didn’t end at high speeds. When Djurkovic arranged to meet with law enforcement, he was taken into custody peacefully. The consequence? A slew of legal issues, with charges ranging from Reckless Driving to Engaging Police in a Pursuit. Each charge spelling out why treating highways like racetracks isn’t just reckless but also laden with legal repercussions.

Facing a $2,500 bond, Djurkovic is set to make an appearance in court on June 17, hopefully arriving there without turning heads for all the wrong reasons.

The situation indeed raises eyebrows, yet the ability of that Mercedes to reach those speeds isn’t surprising. The E300, with its turbocharged four-cylinder engine pushing out over 240 horsepower, can indeed deliver thrills. In comparison, it has the kind of acceleration and stability that stands up to higher-performance vehicles, at least until common sense is factored in.

Hopefully, this serves as a reminder that while cars can be an exhilarating ride, the real world isn’t the place for racing. With any luck, Djurkovic’s job interview skills will outshine his driving antics.
