Truck Prices Rise

In the ever-evolving world of truck pricing, Ram’s CEO has laid out some stark realities. The era of full-size trucks priced under $40,000 is now a relic of the past, at least according to those in the know. While it’s a tough pill to swallow, there’s more to this story than just rising prices. Enter the upcoming midsize option from Ram, set to retain some of that affordability while delivering big on value.
Price Hike

Across the board, new vehicle prices have seen a significant jump. Consider this: in April, the average new vehicle transaction clocked in at $48,699. If you roll the clock back to April 2019, the cost was $36,843. That’s nearly a $12,000 leap in just six years, driven largely by inflation and other economic factors.
Ram’s Strategy

Looking at Ram specifically, the 2025 Ram 1500 starts around $40,275, already quite an uptick from its 2019 price of $31,695. Though there are incentives like a $1,000 discount, the days of super-affordable trucks aren’t likely to return. Nevertheless, Ram is turning its focus to the midsize market, hinting at a new pickup in the pipeline with a price tag under $40,000. This strategic move is intriguing because it positions Ram to compete with others in that midsize category, which historically has been left to competitors like Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, and others.
Driving Experience
Driving a Ram 1500 has always been about rugged reliability and comfort—qualities that make it a favorite for both work and play. Its handling is smooth, and with their Hemi V8 options, these trucks pack a punch in the power department. The challenge will be to see if the new midsize Ram can uphold these driving impressions while meeting a more wallet-friendly price point. Competing against the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger, which start at $31,900 and $33,330 respectively, the new midsize Ram will need to strike a balance between cost and capability.
Looking Ahead
With over 25 new products set for announcement by Ram through 2026, it’s an exciting time. Enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike await this midsize addition that could potentially shift the market dynamics. If Ram can successfully deliver a well-rounded truck with the right price, it could appeal to those who felt priced out in the full-size category and reinvigorate interest in the brand’s versatility.
