The New Hampshire State Police had rolled out a special traffic enforcement operation, complete with a fixed-wing aircraft keeping a lookout from the skies. This aerial vantage point proved invaluable, as the sky cops detected over 111 traffic infractions throughout the day, ranging from speeding to reckless driving.

The Corvette stood out amongst the infractions, clocked at an intimidating 110 mph before shifting into an even higher gear. Ground officers initially attempted to pull the car over, but the young driver had other plans, accelerating dangerously to evade capture. Little did he know, the eyes in the sky were already locked onto him, ensuring no need for a ground chase’s traditional screeching tires.

Eventually, the plane’s guidance helped direct ground units to where the C8 had peeled off onto the serene roads of Windham. The driver didn’t get much farther, as local authorities apprehended him without a hitch. This driver, identified as Brandon E. B from Salem, Massachusetts, is now facing charges for reckless driving and ignoring a police officer.

Consequences and Comparisons

The fallout from this joyride could be significant. In New Hampshire, the penalties for reckless driving include a possible fine of $620, loss of driving privileges for 60 days, and additional assessments. Brandon was released on bail with a court date set for July 17 in Salem District Court.

While this Corvette’s top-speed dash might seem thrilling, it’s a stark reminder of the power beneath the hood of a C8. With a 6.2L V8 engine pumping out around 490 horsepower, this machine is designed for speed. When compared to similar cars, like the Porsche 911 or Ford Mustang, the Corvette holds its own, especially in terms of acceleration and overall road feel. However, unlike a responsible track day, real-world speeding adds risks that far outweigh the rush.

Memorial Day turned out to be a busy one for the officers above, with several other drivers hitting big numbers on the speedo. All said, 42 were going 90 mph or faster, with six cracking the 100 mph mark.
